We call our Cake Smash sessions our 3-in-1 ‘Happimess’ session as we do 3 shoots as one to celebrate the 1st Birthday.
At Shy Violet Photography, we’ve been cake smashing since 2012 … and over the years have adapted our Cake Smash sessions to what we now call our Happimess sessions: We start with the I am ONE shoot, with our wooden letters spelling ‘One’ – we have bright coloured letters and smaller cream letters plus a big flowery ‘1’ for the girls – this shoot gets your baby warmed up and used to the studio, the flash lights and me.
After the I am One shoot, we then do the Cake Smash. All our packages include a big bright and beautiful personalised cake made especially for you in a choice of colours by our fabulous cake maker. Once your little one is done cake smashing and is covered in cakey gooey mess … We then finish it off with our Rub-a-Dub wash off in our posing roll top baby bath with bubbles, washing off the goo as we go! All 3 as one session – which depending on how much your little one is loving it usually lasts around an hour and 15 mins or so.
The 1st birthday is definitely the best birthday for the cake smash – seeing and capturing their expressions as they realise they can smash it AND eat it is priceless. These sessions are just full of smiles and giggles as they smash the cake to a gooey mess … seriously great fun!

These are a few pics from Ella’s Cake Smash photo session – her mum chose Package A. We had a grey backdrop with a very girly pink and yellow theme. The ‘ONE’ letters can be changed to almost any colour and Ella’s mum asked for grey to go in her living room 🙂

I just love the baby cake smash … it’s one of the most fun things I do. I started doing the 1st birthday cake smash in early 2012 … and with a wealth of experience now behind me, I have decided to open this up to fur babies too.
I have only recently introduced our Doggy/Puppy Cake Smash photo session… and it’s just as much fun. I absolutely adore dogs and encourage families to bring their dogs all the time – so this is just great for me too.
The Doggy smash can be done at any age and for any reason … a birthday, getting over an op or illness or possibly a rescue dog in need of a treat … Below are pics of Romeo – he survived a heart op at just 3 months old, so his mum & dad felt he deserved a real treat.. and there’s no treat quite like this one.
We can start the session with some photos of you and your fur baby and/or we can introduce ONE letters if it’s for their 1st Birthday …. followed by the Cake Smash with a big bright and beautiful personalised cake made especially for your in a choice of colours and full of dog treats. Then depending on the size of your doggy, finishing with our Rub-a-Dub was off in our posing roll top baby bath with bubbles or one of our vintage pales. We do have a larger tin bath for the larger dogs.

At Shy Violet Photography, we now have 2 wonderful studios … Studio A for Newborn, Babies and Cake Smash and Studio B for family photo sessions. As a general rule we offer the family photo sessions on a white backdrop, but we can offer other ideas.
And we have lots of choices and ideas/ colours and designs for your babies and children.
We are happy to offer a Combination Photo Shoot, where we can incorporate family shots on the white and another option for your little ones – ideas are Bubbles Shoot, Vintage Shoot, Fun Shoot on a Colour of your choice using balloons, pompoms, bunting.
If the weather is good, we can always go into the woods in the studio grounds to get some lovely outdoor shots.
We are now thinking about Christmas and can offer a family photo session together with a Christmas themed session – email or call us for more info.

This is then followed by the Cake Smash with a big bright and beautiful personalised cake made especially for you in a choice of colours. There is nothing more entertaining that watching your little one with this cake … their expressions are just priceless. And our cakes are made to be extra soft and gooey to ensure maximum mess.

Depending on how much your baby is loving it all, the whole session lasts about an hour and 15 mins.

As we all know, the 1st Birthday Cake Smash has become a Must Have for the 1st Birthday for so many … but not all!
At Shy Violet Photography, we absolutely love our Cake Smash photo sessions, but do realise that not everyone loves mess the way we do.
Erica’s mum called me and asked for ideas for Erica for her 1st Birthday that didn’t involve smashing up a cake … and as you will see from the images below, we still provided our ‘3-in-1’ Photo session, but no ‘Happimess’ … Just happiness 🙂
We started with our jumbo flowery ‘1’, then we used our cream coloured wooden letters spelling ‘one’. After this we put Erica in our spinning chair which she just loved, and then into our vintage pale and added some bubbles – a lot of fun for Erica and all of us … who needs cake?!

We are always suprised when people ask us ‘what’s a cake smash?” We have been doing the 1st Birthday cake smash for over 7 years and now call our sessions the 3-in-1 ‘Happimess’ session as we do 3 shoots as one.

Our favourite time to capture your newborn baby is between 6 and 12 days (or even as young as 4 days) – and we class our newborn sessions as up to 4 weeks young. This is the best time to capture the oh so beautiful natural, curled up shots, which we can do on various blankets, offering you the option of many props too, from simple to elaborate. And as we work in a composite style you can choose as many props as you like … all of which will be explained to you in full at the beginning of your photo session.

Newborn photography sessions are up to 3 hours allowing for feeding, soothing and cuddles throughout. We realise how very precious your newborn baby is to you and we take the greatest care during the session, and ensure that the studio is kept lovely and warm.
However, if you would like us to bring our studio to you, we can and just need your postcode to give you a cost for travel and set up.
ALL sessions can include sibling and family shots, and package prices (as shown on our website) include as many props as you like and all editing/retouching required. We discuss in full your requirements at the start of your session. There are no hidden costs, there is nothing more to pay if you book one of our packages, unless of course you would like additional images – you can request to see these prior to booking.

Newborn Photography Summer Sale STILL ON
At Shy Violet Photography, our favourite time to capture your newborn baby is between 6 and 12 days (or even as young as 4 days) – and we class our newborn sessions as up to 4 weeks young. The reason for this, is because after 2 weeks, your newborn baby becomes that little bit more alert but is usually still sleeping well after feeds. But after 4 weeks, we find it harder to keep you newborn baby asleep. And why do we need them asleep? Because with all newborn babies, the best poses are the curled up sleepy shots that we all love and when awake, it is very difficult to get them into these poses and then keep them in these poses.
With Shy Violet Photography, we offer you all these natural, curled up shots on various blankets and offer you too the option of many props, from simple to elaborate.
