Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Cake Smashing since 2010! Where sitting on your cake is an absolute must!! 🙂
One of the first Cake Smash Photographers in the NorthWest if not THE first … and even though it’s been 12 years of gooey cakey mess – these cake smash photoshoots never get any less Fun … they are just such a good time for you, your baby and for me!
It’s just the best way to celebrate the 1st Birthday…. Letting them loose on a big bright and very gooey cake – what could be more fun? Watching their reactions and capturing them on camera is priceless.
We provide the cake – there is a cake included in every package. Our standard cake is an 8″ round cake covered in a thick coating of very soft and creamy butter icing which comes in a choice of colours (you choose) and 3 coloured discs as cake decorations and personalisd with your little one’s name. There are more fancy cakes on offer too for an addiitonal cost and all can be seen on the website – click here to view.
On the webiste page … you will see the cakes, some info plus lots of images on the image gallery – click here to view. But if you have an idea, colour scheme or a theme you would like to incorporate please get in touch as I do love and welcome new ideas. Also on this page are the package oiptions.

Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Specialists in Newborn and Baby Photoraphy since 2006.
Frankie came to see me at just 11 days old for her newborn photo shoot. At the start of the photoshoot, Frankie’s mum & dad and I had a chat about the images they would like from the session. Having been photographing newborns now for some years I’ve accumulated a lot of lovely outfits, props and backdrops … and am getting new ones in all the time. Too much choice many say! – So outfits and backdrops were chosen and a few pics can be seen below.
They had told me that she was quite an alert newborn so sleepng might be a bit of a problem .. but not so as I have the most wonderful soft heat blow heaters which kept her very sleepy. We gave her little breaks for soothing and top ups. Mum and dad sat with me whilst I worked … you have the choice of joining me or you can relax on one of the soft sofas and let me do my thing 🙂
If you have not yet had your baby, I reccommend that you book in for your Newborn Baby Photoshoot based on your due date and then if this changes, and we have to move the shoot date, you do not lose your deposit. Yes it’s been 12 years of cake smash fun and mess for me … and I love it just as much now! It’s still the most fun way to celebrate the 1st Birthday…. Letting your little one loose on a big bright and very gooey cake – what could be more fun? Watching their reactions and capturing them on camera is priceless.
I offer the 3-in-1 photoshoot – using the ONE wooden letters to begin the photoshoot, followed by the cake smash and then the tub and bubbles bit where we wash all the mess off. I call this my 3-in-1 HAPPIMESS photoshoot 🙂
Raed joined us for a Cookie Monster themed Cake Smash and he really did smash it. He loved it all – pics below.

I’m often asked when is the best time to book a newborn shoot? It is always best to book before your baby is here as there is such a small window in which to capture the newborn ‘look’ … and I reccmmend booking a date based on your due date. This shoot can be rearranged easiliy if baby is late or early. But if your little cherub is already here, give me a call on 07810 533533 and I will do my best to fit you in.
On booking, I ask you to book a package – my package options can be viewed by clicking here. This is the newborn page on my website and will also show you my image gallery and the various styles I offer. ALL packages can include sibling and family shots too if you wish.
I offer all the natural shots on the backdrops/blankets, with and without props, and also provide the more creative side too – examples of which can be seen below and on our website – Click here to view. I offer all the props and backdrops shown here at no additional charge to the package prices stated on the website. And have been investing in new little outfits – a few of which can be seen below.

Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Specialists in Newborn and Baby Photoraphy since 2006.
I’ve been investing alot over these past months in NEW Newborn Props, backdrops and outfits. And now have some adorable cute little outfits to share with you and your newborn baby. Pics can be seen below of a few of these.
If you are unsure when to book a newborn photoshoot, I always recommend that you book in in advance and book in around your due date. My favourite time to capture your newborn baby is between 6 and 12 days. So if you let me know your due date, I then send over my availability based on your due date, but if we have to change the date due to an early or late arrival, this is no problem and happens all the time.
I love you as the parents to be very involved in the session – as it’s such a very special time in your lives, so I provide chairs so that you can sit and relax next to me and watch me work. You don’t hae to of course … you can always have a kip on one of our sofas or giant bean bags whilst I create your images 🙂 🙂

Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Cake Smashing since 2010 🙂 And I just love it … these shoots are just so much fun for all of us.
I call my Cake Smash Photoshoots my 3-in-1 HAPPIMESS Session … I do 3 photoshoots as 1. Firstly we do the Wooden O, N and E letters – these can be created in all colours to colour match your theme. Then I introduce the cake and let them loose – and then once they are covered in cake and had enought, we put them into the cutest mini roll top tub and watch them splash and play with the bubbles. Capturing their looks of wonder, smiles and giggles all the way through.
What could be more fun for thier 1st Birthday? Watching their reactions and capturing them on camera is priceless. And although I’ve been doing the Cake Smash for over 12 years it never ever becomes less fun. And even more fun for you as parents as you have no mess to clear up!
I am always interested in new ideas from customers, so if you would like a theme but don’t see that I do this on the website image gallery, then please get in touch to disucss. The Jungle / Safari theme is a fun one and we can include one of our standard cakes in jungle colours as part of the package.
A standard cake is INCLUDED in all our package options – an 8” tall personalised cake made extra soft and gooey and very yummy, in a choice of colours.. But we also have a choice of more elaborate cakes that you can add to your package at discounted prices.

Lorenzo joined us in the studio for his newborn baby photoshoot at just 8 days old. He had just had a feed before arriving, but seemed very interested in all around him and it took us a while to soothe him to sleep. Soft heat helped with this alot! 🙂
Lorenzo’s parents and I had a chat at the start of his photoshoot about outfits and backdrops and pics are attached to this blog of their choices. After the Newborn stage, I am often asked when is the next best stage to photograph your baby? The 5-6 months stage is a wonderful time as your baby is learning to sit up (sometimes unaided) and they are all smiles and giggles with lots of personality showing at this age. I just love it and have photographed all my grand children at this 5-6 month stage, with their photos hanging proudly in my studio.
For this baby stage, I have lots of lovely ideas, and I provide a lot of the props for these Baby Photoshoots …. chairs, soft toys, rocking horses/unicorn, hats, flowers, bubbles … the list goes on. I do have a few outfits for the girls in the main … but you are welcome to bring as many outfits as you like and favourite toys, teddies, books – whatever you would like them photographed with.

I have a wonderful NEW idea for Baby’s of any age from 5 months onwards … My NEW “Everything My Baby Is” keepsake photobook – a very beautiful luxury coffee table style book which will last forever. You choose 12-15 words that describe your baby and then the photoshoot and the book are designed around your baby’s personality / character. What to Expect for your Newborn PhotoShoot
With Shy Violet Photography, a wonderful, fun and stress free experience
Our newborn photoshoots, as we’ve frequently been told, are a lovely and fun experience … you as the parents are fully involved and at the start of your photoshoot we chat about what you’d like from your newborn photo session. On arrival you will be made a brew and we can then sit and chat about what you’d like from your photo shoot (although we’ve probably discussed this on booking). We will also chat about your newborn’s feeding schedule and work the shoot around this.
My studio is a warm and comfortable place. Parents are welcome to relax on the couches for some well deserved ‘Me’ time, or sit close to me and watch the magic and beauty of their newborn being photographed. It really is a wonderful experience and I hear this from parents all the time.
Depending on your newborn baby, the shoot can last from 2 to possibly 4 hours – and I allow plenty of time for feeding, soothing and cuddles throughout. I realise how very precious your newborn baby is to you and I take the greatest care during the shoot, and ensure that your baby is kept lovely and warm at all times.
Family Shots : All packages can include family and/or sibling shots. You may not feel your best, but I do encourage parents to get at least one pic of themselves with their brand new baby. But of course this is up to you and I would say the majority of newborn photoshoots are just of baby.

Welcome to Shy Violet Photography – Photographing Newborns and Babies since 2006.
When to book your newborn photo shoot? : For those adorable curled up, sleepy, posed newborn images that we all just love, I suggest photographing your baby between 6 and 12 days after birth. During this time, newborns are at their sleepiest. Their sleep can be more easily disturbed the older they get. Because of this, it can make it more difficult to capture some of the posed photographs.
If your baby is older than 4 weeks, please still get in touch – Often an “older” newborn can still be coaxed into a pose or two, so don’t despair. I have photographed “older” newborns with great success. No matter what, we will capture beautiful portraits of your baby.
To book you in … You provide us with your due date and we book you in based on this date. However, as we know, babies are very often late or early so if we have to move your photo shoot, you do not lose your deposit.
On booking you will be asked which package you’d like to book. This won’t be set in stone and can be upgraded if you wish once you’ve viewed all your images.
Our newborn photoshoots, so we’ve been told, are a lovely experience … you as the parents are fully involved and at the start of your photoshoot we chat about what you’d like from your newborn photo session. You have the options of the Newborn Art images …and the natural shots too without props and elaborate backdrops. We can do both as one Photoshoot if you would like a bit of both.
