A newborn baby photoshoot is not just about pictures – it’s about preserving the essence of your baby’s first days.

There’s something magical about a newborn baby; their tiny fingers and toes, soft skin and sweet, squishy little expressions create the most wonderful photographs.  A fleeting stage in life and the perfect opportunity to capture beautiful photographs that you and your family can treasure always.

When it comes to your newborn baby, their safety and comfort comes first.  I am an experienced newborn baby photographer of over 23 years and I ensure that your baby is handled gently and safely.  My studio is designed with comfort in mind. I know that newborns can be unpredictable, so I work at your baby’s pace, taking breaks as needed for feeding, soothing, or diaper changes. This ensures the experience is stress-free for you and your baby, allowing us to get the best shots without rushing.

Over the years I have accumulated many beautiful outfits, props and accessories, all of which you can choose from at the start of your photoshoot at no extra cost; and most of which can be seen on the 3-4 Image galleries that you will find on this website. I offer the very natural shots to the more whimsical and creative ideas, all of which are discussed with you on booking.

Newborn sessions are best done within the first two weeks of life; my favourite time being between 5 and 12 days … as babies are still incredibly small and sleepy during this time.  I am happy to go to 3 weeks, but after this your baby becomes very much more alert. If your baby is older than 3 weeks but you feel they are sill sleeping soundly after feeds, then please get in touch to discuss.

The newborn stage is so fleeting that before you know it, your baby is smiling and rolling over … growing up and reaching milestones that seem to come so quickly.   A Newborn Photoshoot is a way to capture those precious early moments that you’ll never get back.

When to Book a Newborn Photoshoot

My favourite time to capture your newborn is between 5 and 12 days – Why so soon? During this window, babies tend to sleep a lot and still have that “newborn” look –  Babies are also more likely to be calm and sleepy during this time, which is perfect for those dreamy, peaceful shots.  I am happy to go up to 3 weeks but then after the 3 weeks your newborn baby becomes more alert.

Your Newborn PhotoShoot

With over 25 years experience, I can very easily guide you through your newborn photoshoot however, there are a few things you can do to ensure the shoot goes smoothly:

1. Choose the Right Photographer: Look for someone who specialises in newborn photography. I have the experience and patience needed to handle babies safely and capture the most beautiful, intimate shots. 2. Timing:  My favourite time to capture your newborn baby is between 6 and 12 days and best before 2 weeks, but I do happily go to 3 weeks and often 4 weeks.
3. Sleepy shots:  I try to schedule the photoshoot for you when is best for you and your baby – we will need you to feed your newborn baby throughout the photoshoot as a full belly and a sleepy baby are the perfect combination for a successful photoshoot.  It’s the sleepy curled up, squishy newborn shots we all love so baby will need to be asleep.
4. Outfits and Props: I have an array of props and accessories for you to choose from.  Most of which can be seen in all the online galleries – most of the outfits shown are mine for you to choose from.  However, you can also bring your own personal touches like a special blanket or a favorite onesie. Keep the clothing simple and comfortable for your baby — think soft fabrics and natural colors.
5. Comfort for You: Remember that this photoshoot is a celebration of your baby, but it’s also about your family. Consider including a few family shots, where you and your partner (and any older siblings) can be part of the memories. I charge an additional £25 for a mini family shoot.  Wear comfortable, simple clothing that allows you to feel relaxed.

What to Expect During the Session

Newborn photoshoots can range from 1 to 3 hours, depending on your baby’s temperament and how many different shots you’d like. Keep in mind, newborns can’t be rushed — they need time for feedings, nappy changes, and rest breaks. But don’t worry, I am very accustomed to these needs and will work around your baby’s schedule.

A newborn photoshoot is more than just about taking pictures. It’s about freezing a moment in time that will never come again. The first days of your baby’s life are full of wonder, and having high-quality photographs to look back on helps you hold onto that magic forever. I love photographing newborn babies between 6 and 14 days old …during this stage they are sleeping soundly and deeply, and it’s easier to achieve the sleepy, curled up shots we all love.  I do go up to 4 weeks as in my experience, altho more alert the shoot is still doable, it might just take a bit longer :).

My newborn photoshoots are a minimum of 2 hours, as I allow a lot of time for cudding and feeding during the shoot.
